Runs scheduled on days 1(20km), 6(14km), 7(18km) and 8 (20km and 8km).
How many days of cycling?
Cycling on all 8 days of expedition.
Smelly kit & Laundry?
Worried that eight days in the same kit will scare off most of the wild life in the area, Gregg has organised laundry service for sport gear on day 2,4 & 6 of Wild Coast 3000. This is a 2 day return service, and tagged laundry bags will be provided. Please do not expect ironing! It is just hand washed, enough to make the niff a little more tolerable by day 8.
Normal casual clothes. Jeans, T-shirt, jumper etc.
Camping or in buildings?
The entire expedition is a mixture of outdoor tented camps (with Bedouin style communal areas) and existing lodges along the way.
Days – between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius. Nights – between 5 and 15 degrees Celsius. In this part of the world at this time of the year, temperatures can vary a lot depending on which direction the wind is coming from.

On your international flight approaching O.R. Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg, South Africa, you may be handed a Landing Card (Arrival Form) to complete on board (one per passport holder). If not, these will be waiting for you at the Arrival Terminal (before you reach the Immigration Counter). You will be required to hand the completed Arrival form with your Passport to the Immigration official at the appropriate counter.
a) If your aircraft docks at a jetty (where you walk off the aircraft straight into the airport building) – please look out for the Wild Coast 3000 signage on a hand held board as you enter into the terminal building from the aircraft.
b) If the aircraft is parked away from the terminal building and you take a bus from the aircraft to the airport terminal, the representative will be standing with the Wild Coast 3000 sign on a board as you enter the Terminal Building.
Please look out for the sign.
c) You will be assisted through immigration then to collect your luggage. The group must remain together. From here you will be escorted through the terminal building to transportation that will take you (and your luggage) to the Fireblade Hangar situated at Johannesburg International Airport on the opposite side of the International Terminal.
The following facilities are available to you at the Fireblade Hangar on an inclusive basis.
Once you have arrived at the Fireblade Hangar please use their facilities to change out of your travel clothes into your running gear and wear your running shoes. Ensure that you pack the clothes you change out of, into your main luggage.
You will be departing from Fireblade Hangar by helicopter to the Premier Hotel Sani Pass at the foot of the Sani Pass, in the Drakensburg, Kwa-Zulu Natal and are restricted in terms of weight.
Your luggage will be transported separately by road to your destination and will be waiting for your arrival at the Hotel later that evening.
Please do not take any luggage with you on the helicopter other than:
A lightweight long sleeved cycle top
We therefore suggest that you pack a lightweight bag as per image which you will take on the helicopter. Please label your luggage
The reason for this change of clothing is because on your arrival at the Premier Hotel Sani Pass off the helicopter, at the foot of The Sani Pass, you will immediately be transferred by vehicle to Sani Mountain Lodge, a world heritage site at the top of Sani Pass, on the border between South Africa and The Kingdom of Lesotho, 2874 metres above sea level.
Your Passports are required to complete formalities to enter The Kingdom of Lesotho then a further 500m to the Hotel where lunch will be served and an official welcome will take place amid the most amazing views of this area.
You will then embark on a 20km trail run to the bottom of Sani Pass where you will collect your bike for a gentle 20km ride to Himeville and on to Moorcroft Manor Guest House for the night. A welcome dinner and expedition briefing with take place that evening.
